I have a quick question about Bruneau Dunes State Park...
The tallest single-structured sand dune in North America rises to 470 feet high above small lakes in the high desert south of Mountain Home. The state park includes desert, dune, prairie, lake and marsh habitat with opportunities to observe nocturnal species. Activities include fishing, birdwatching, camping, hiking, swimming and viewing the stars at one of only two public observatory's in Idaho. Feel free to climb but no vehicles are allowed on the dunes. A visitor center offers information on all birds of prey, insects, fossils, wildlife and sand dunes and gift items for purchase.
Bruneau Dunes Astronomical Observatory is open to the public Friday and Saturday evenings at dusk from Mid-March through Mid-October, weather permitting. A presentation is offered prior to viewing in the Steele-Reese Education Center. For presentation start time check the online calendar, cal (208)366-7919, or check the kiosk when you arrive at the park. Cost for the program is by donation.
A $5 Day Use Vehicle Entry Fee is assessed per vehicle, per day. Annual passports are available.
