Box Canyon is Idaho's newest state park.
A 350-acre canyon 20 miles northwest of Twin Falls is Idaho's newest state park, thanks to a state/private partnership. The Nature Conservancy and the Idaho Power Company were instrumental in helping the State of Idaho fund the purchase of the $5 million property from the Earl M. and LaVane M. Hardy Charitable Trust and the Hardy Foundation.

Box Canyon is the site of the 11th largest spring in North America, which pours 180,000 gallons of water per minute into the Snake River. The canyon is also the home to a rare fish species found only in Idaho, the Shoshone Sculpin, as well as three endangered spring snails. The canyon walls are popular for nesting raptors.

The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR) will manage the site jointly with The Nature Conservancy until the property can be permanently transferred to the state. Because of its fragile nature, IDPR will limit access to the canyon at least for the next several months.
