Make a day of driving around Lake Pend Oreille's 111 miles of shoreline with Sandpoint as your take off and return spot at the City Beach. Your loop will take you through Ponderay and Kootenai, through Hope, into the Clark Fork River delta (best experienced by boat) and on to the southeast shore of the lake until you encounter the Johnson Viewpoint, high above the lake six miles from Clark Fork bridge. There are a couple of public access points to reach the lake at Whiskey Rock Bay and the small resort village of Lakeview.

Continuing on you'll pass through the lake community of Bayview and the largest park on the lake, Farragut State Park. Heading north up the lake's western shore there are just a few public access points reached by land including Maiden Rock, a short trail at the end of Butler Creek Road. Traveling on you'll come to Garfield Bay with public areas and a large marina, camping and eateries.

About five miles across the lake is Sandpoint and soon you'll be driving across Long Bridge which crosses the Pend Oreille River and then you arrive safely back to where your trip originated.
