Annual Idaho Shakespeare Festival
June 4 - September 26 2010  Boise, Idaho
2010 Annual Idaho Shakespeare Festival
The festival began in 1977 when a group of determined actors put on A Midsummer Night's Dream at a local eatery. The reception was overwhelmingly positive and they continued with their performances. In 1996, spurred on by increasing audiences and artistic demands, the festival initiated a campaign to build a permanent home. This dream became a reality in 1998 with the opening of the Idaho Shakespeare Festival Amphitheater, an outdoor amphitheatre set along the banks of the lovely Boise River.

A rotation of 5 plays are performed throughout the summer under the stars at the Festival outdoor amphitheater. Tickets required. Reservations suggested.

  • All Well That Ends Well: (June 6 - July 18, 2008) Hearts and nations are at war in this romantic tale of one woman’s determination to chase down her husband despite all odds. The orphaned Helena traverses war torn Europe, performing impossible tasks to win Bertram’s love--but is all for naught? Shakespeare’s rarely performed romantic comedy poses the eternal question, “do the ends justify the means”. You be the judge.”
  • Greater Tuna: (September 5 -September 27, 2008) Somethin’ fishy is going on in September! Tom and Joe (a.k.a The Greenshow Guys a.k.a The Fool Squad a.k.a two of the wackiest wits in the West) team up for an evening of tour de farce theater. Sit back and laugh the night away as they portray over 20 inhabitants of Tuna, the third smallest town in Texas. This hilarious satire paints a panoramic view of life in rural America, and showcases the talent of our dexterous duo.
  • Into the Woods: (July 11 - August 31, 2008) Over the river and through the woods to the Festival you go—to delight in this fractured fairy tale. Stephen Sondheim’s award winning music and lyrics will transport you to a land where there is a giant in the sky, a wolf in the woods, a curse reversed, and a wish in everyone’s heart. This magical tapestry of woven fables amuses and enlightens as desires, quests, and consequences combine to remind you to be careful what you wish for.
  • Macbeth: (August 1 - August 29, 2008) “By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes” is just one prophetic warning issued by Shakespeare’s witchy, weird sisters in this compelling tale of the pursuit of power and its deadly ends. In a world where nobles vie for power with mighty armies and subtle intrigues, Macbeth yearns for political advancement. Driven by his desire and his wife’s obsession with power, Macbeth throws aside his conscience to pursue the throne. We dare you to join us for an evening of darkness, where specters and riddles foretell the future of kings.
  • The Crucible: (June 13 - July 23, 2008) Arthur Miller’s political masterpiece is more relevant now than ever. Perched on the edge of the New World in 1692, Salem, Massachusetts, is home to a puritanical village steadfast in their sense of religious sanctity. The devil is suddenly loosed in this quiet enclave when a group of teenage girls are caught dancing and conjuring love charms in the woods under the guise of night. Wicked accusations and whispers of adultery ignite a firestorm of mass hysteria, personal spite and a relentless witch hunt that shakes the very foundation of the community. A timeless tale of truth on trial, this renowned drama is a riveting American classic.
